How to brighten up your day
Most of you may know, my moods haven't been that great lately. I blame stress and PMS (pre, present and post). Honestly, feeling sucky is a horrible feeling. It gets worse with every passing day and nothing seemed to be cheering me up. I'd get super grumpy then I'd get moody then I'd get stressed and then all that I've been feeling accumulates into this big ball of negativity which, lemme tell you, makes you feel more like crap than you already do. But today, I decided to do something that would ease my mind a little bit and I feel a whole lot better now than I did a few hours ago. So I'm gonna share some tips on how to make yourself feel better/ brighten up your day.
Now with most people who're under lots of stress, it's easy for us to neglect pampering ourselves because "there's just not enough time". Me personally, I feel really guilty if I take time away from studying to do other things. I typically use these few tips to brighten up my day and ease my mood
Exercise
This is typically something that lots of people would not consider but exercise is extremely effective. I'll admit that typically, on a day that I feel super stressed I wouldn't consider it but when I do exercise I feel amazing afterwards. So go ahead take a jog, run around, swim a little.. the main idea is to sweat it all out to destress a little.
Treat yourself to a little spa (at home)
So the fastest pick-me-up for me is to just put on a facial mask and go about my day but if you're really in the mood to completely relax I'd recommend taking some time off to completely immerse yourself in a little pampering session. Light up some candles or use essential oils to allow yourself to relax. Try not to use extremely strong smelling scents, you want the smell to subtly hit your senses and relax. Much like how a spa would smell like, the smell shouldn't be completely in your face (nose) and bombard your senses. Now if you don't have any these, having a mask on your face works fine. If you're on a budget, Innisfree has sheet masks that are RM4 per piece. Brew some tea, play some spa music, close your eyes for a good 20 minutescan we say power nap and relax.
Listen to Music
This is a no brainer really. All you really need is good music that'll brighten up your day. Now depending on what kind of music you like, your preferences will vary from one person to another. But hey who's to say you wouldn't like a song from another genre of music you've never liked right? Spotify is pretty awesome, in my opinion of course. I know, I know I'm super late on the band wagon but better late than never right? My point is blast some good music, dance around and ultimately smile.
Nap
Ever heard of the term "sleep it off"? Well it's pretty useful to me, I usually take a nap once a day, twice if I feel extremely tired and it works. Sleep is basically a restart button for you and your body. I usually recommend 20 minutes of sleep and I set a timer rather than an alarm just because I really wanna get the most out of 20 minutes as I can. A nap can usually take your mind off of things and it's basically the best form of me time as well. This works especially when you're in a horrible mood, sometimes the best way to cool off is to take time away from a situation and zen. So take that nap, just try not to extend your nap.
Talk
Keeping your feelings in is not always the best solution. Sometimes it's best when you let your feelings out. Picture your feelings and you keeping it in as a bottle of Coke. The more you bottle your feelings, the more you fill up the bottle; there'll be a time when the bottle over flows and creates a huge mess. There'll be other times when you manage to keep your feelings at bay and for some miraculous reason the bottle empties itself naturally. The worst times are when you bottle your feelings till you can't anymore and then you burst. This, in my eyes, is probably the worst scenario. The key goal here is to not burst and create a huge mess that only you can clean up. Besides, when you're stressed out you generally don't want to have to deal with all that unnecessary mess anyway. So the point is to express yourself once in a while to just clear your system from all that negativity you feel
So those are my tips that usually help brighten up my day and I hope they'll help you too. As usual, thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day :)
Sincerely,
Siemone
